#Isle of jura 12 year old upgrade
It doesn’t stray too far from the 10 year old’s formula, however though for just 10 dollars more per bottle, the upgrade will hardly break the bank.

I called the Jura 10 year old expression “dangerously drinkable,” and this 12 year old is much the same. It’s far too easy to pour another glass, or two the entire experience is actually quite refreshing. In the end, sweet cereal - not insignificant - is heavy on the banana bread-laden finish, but it’s quite appealing and mouth-smackingly rounded. Just a hint of peaty smoke nothing outsized in the slightest. Rather toasty with barrel char elements, its nutty characteristics dissipate a bit with time in glass as some more austere elements come into focus. The palate has much of the same composition: nutty and mildly sweet up top, with notes of honey and spiced/glazed nuts kicking things off, then spikes of orange peel and a spray of greenery coming into focus in short order. On the nose, the sherry influence is present but understated, its citrus notes undercut by nougat, almond, some Christmas cake notes, and a lingering baking spice element. There are no big surprises in the making of the spirit: It’s aged in bourbon barrels and finished in oloroso sherry casks, a classic barrel regimen, hitting the bottle after a dozen years in total. The range has considerably expanded these last few years also with the creation of peated versions of Jura whisky.Did you know that as of 2020, Jura was the fastest growing single malt brand in the U.S.? Neither did I, and I’ll savor that morsel of trivia while sipping on the brand’s newest expression, a 12 year old offering that fits in the lower-middle spot alongside Jura’s 10 year old, Seven Wood, and 18 year old core lineup of single malts. The wide and tall stills of the distillery have been conceived to produce a light distillate, enabling Isle of Jura to contribute to the Whyte & Mackay blends. The distillery is one of the flagships of Whyte & Mackay. The Kyndal Spirits became in 2003 Whyte & Mackay Ltd. The Scottish & Newcastle Breweries sold the distillery to Invergordon, which was purchased by White & Mackay and became in 2001 Kyndal Spirits. The architect who rebuilt the distillery is well known in the whisky world, as it is Delmé Evans, who also rebuilt, amongst others, the Glenallachie and Tullibardine distilleries. More recently, after 40 years of closure between 19, the distillery was fully rebuilt with financial support from Scottish & Newcastle Breweries. Indeed, law exempted all roofless structures from taxation. This did not deter the landlord to pursue the Furgusson’s who came back to the Isle of Jura and dismantled the distillery’s roofs. As the landlord decided to collect taxes on the land, the Furgusson family moved all the equipment to Glasgow. It changed owner many times in the 19 th century: J&A Gardner, Norman Buchanan, J.K.

In the following year, Archibald Fletcher took over the distillery and managed for 20 years.
#Isle of jura 12 year old license

The distillery was renamed several times. Indeed, the first traces of distillation hark back to the 16th century. Some say Isle of Jura is the oldest distillery of Scotland.
